    Valerie Miller: Snapshot of greatness

    Sunday, August 16th, 2009

Valerie Miller is one of the most incredible vocalists amongst us…highly gifted and her songwriting keeps getting stronger and stronger. Found this clip from one of our song pitch meetings a while back and it was a reminder that this snipit of greatness must get FINISHED! In our meetings we pitch about 8-15 songs…some of them are great…some are good…and some, eh not so much but hey, that’s the reality. One of the biggest fights a songwriter goes through is the refining and finishing process. Being honest, objective (emotionally detaching), and willing to change and rework the song is a great strength but indeed, it calls for discipline and diligence. Below is a short clip from Val on the starts of her song “Freedom”…oh, she WILL finish this song and it will be heard and experienced very soon.

    “Come Back Home” Project Lifesong

    Saturday, August 15th, 2009

Not to long ago several creative minds from Play Chase Music came up with an idea…take people’s life stories and put them to song. The purpose for these songs would be to give them to the people behind the stories as a gift…and also share them with our church community to inspire and uplift.

This past Christmas we did a series at our church called “Intentional Acts of Christmas.” As a accompaniment to this series we created a website called inspiresharegive.com where people could submit their stories of struggle, hurt, redemption and hope. These stories consisted of many common elements…financial meltdowns, broken relationships, new found community and so much more. As the project unfolded we found our stories from this website as well as catching wind of other stories people had shared within our community. The video below (created by my friend Mike Martin, Alex Watson and his team) is the first go around of what we are calling “Project Lifesong.” My good friend Nick Kirk wrote a song for a couple who’s relationship fell apart only to be restored years later. Enjoy “Come Back Home” written by Nick Kirk and performed by Billy Wilkerson:

Human Guitar Solo by Dustin Ah Kuoi

    Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Dustin decided to attempt a human guitar solo trick. I think John Mayer may have some competition. Please kids, don’t try this at home.
    Enjoy.

    I Still Believe In Love

    Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Rudy Vaughn’s song “I Still Believe In Love” had been in the waiting for maybe 2 years or longer…every once in a while it would poke its head out wanting to be heard. At times, It’s hard as songwriters and artists to be patient with the process…to allow the time and space for the song to find it’s place at just the right time. Well, the right time finally found Rudy’s song…the life and heart in the song was used to help bring to life a video piece that was taken to capture the heart cry of those that are in need around the world and how serving others, locally and nationally, is no small thing. So we’ve posted it below for you. WARNING: This will require tissue.

    The Birth of “Love Unyielding”

    Friday, August 7th, 2009

Katie Morgan’s song “Love Unyielding” is one of those songs that absolutely landed with power and freedom the moment we tried it out on our congregation. It’s really cool to see the process of how it starts from the heart of the artist, the collaboration and refining process, and definitely to hear it acoustically and now being nothing less than full band and full force worship. Here is a video of the first time we heard it at one of our song pitch meetings.

The first 4 mins are the song and the last 2 minutes are bits of the feedback from the group. Enjoy.
